Any radio nerds are welcome to fire up GMRS/FRS 19 on the road and in the vicinity. That’s the official Queho Posse channel for the weekend.
Noble Grand Humbug Tom “The Greek” Panagos has called for all redshirts to gather at the Kershaw-Ryan State Park in Lincoln County, Nevada, on the weekend of April 25 – 27, 2025. The Queho Posse will be raising and dedicating an historic marker for the 1923 Union Pacific Depot in Caliente, Nevada. This spectacular structure, built to serve the traveling public, included a 50 room hotel, restaurant, and a telegraph office, as well as the Union Pacific’s business offices when first opened. If you have never seen this fine depot you are in for a treat, and if you have seen this depot and wondered why such a large structure was built for a small community, you will find out. Caliente is Lincoln County’s only incorporated city, and the depot is now it’s city hall. Mark your calendars, bring your PBCs,
(..and MHP just ended right there, with a comma, leaving us all in suspense)
Note that (in a break from tradition) we are not clamping at a Gun Range or Tavern. We have located a suitable alternative in the form of Kershaw Ryan State Park. We have access to the site beginning on Thursday for you early-birds. Also note that there are some nominal charges for the use of the campground. These charges are paid directly to the ranger station. They charge per vehicle /per campsite, but not per person. So carpool and shack up, fellas.
Kershaw Ryan State Park Camping Site Details
There are a limited number RV pads with hookups (30/50 amps + water). There are also a number of what they call primitive camping spots with no hookups for very small RVs or tents. There is a large area for dry camping available outside of the main RV site. If anyone is interested in an RV pad with hookups let Tom know, please provide the size of your RV, to determine which spots would fit, and if you plan to arrive Thursday or Friday. Email Tom at tompanagos(at)pm.me
Cost to camp at KRSP is as follows:
$15 per night per NV vehicle / $20 per night non-NV Vehicle $10 per night additional for hookup spot
Senior Citizen Permit (65 years of age or older NV Residents) cost $30 per year and eliminates the per night camping charge ($15 per night) and all other entrance fees for one year.
Disabled Veteran Permit (NV residents) – cost $30 per year - need to apply and show proof of a permanent service-connective disability from the Department of Veterans Affairs and was Honorably discharged from the Armed Forces. Eliminates all entrance fees for one year including the $15 per night camping fee.
Go to https://parks.nv.gov/fees/annual-permits for more details and see other annual permits.
All primitive camping spots and the area outside of the camping area are available as a first come, first serve basis. There will be no issue finding space especially outside of the main camping area.
